Inocencia Gonzalez is one of the last 3 people of the Cucapa tribe in north-western Mexico who still speak their traditional language. Her people, until a few decades ago, lived off fishing in the abundant Colorado River delta just south of the California border. ..Nowadays all the water of the river is used for farming or to sustain sprawling desert cities in the US and Mexico, like Phoenix, Las Vegas and Tijuana. So there is nothing left for Inocencia and her tribe. Most Cucapa have left the native village of El Mayor to look for a better life. The few that remain see their culture and language evaporate just like the Colorado water..
