Women traders on the market of Point Sonde in Artibonite
Women traders on the market of Point Sonde in Artibonite wait for transport. They guard bags of Japanese fertilizer, a new import that was introduced to increase the production of rice in Artibonite, the major rice growing area of Haiti. Due to cheap rice imports from the USA, the agricultural sector in Haiti was nearly destroyed. The aftermath of the earth quake of January 12 2010 might be a good moment to take up the restructuring of the agricultural sector in the country to make it more self sustainable for the future.
