Salton City, a town of less than ten thousand inhabitants straddles the western shore of the Salton Sea in the south east of California. After the flooding and increase of salinity of the desert lake the hundreds of thousands that were envisaged never came to settle. Whole neighbourhoods were planned and laid out with streets, electricity, water and sewers, but nobody came. The empty lots lay baking in the sun for more than thirty years. The real estate agents in town try in vain to attract buyers with pre-crisis offers.
